D.1. Bethany Consolation Ministry
It was at Bethany that Jesus went to console Martha and Mary over the death of their brother Lazarus. After training, members of this ministry will attend the wake to help families plan the funeral liturgy at which the ministers will also be present.
D.2. Dorothy Day Social Action Group
The Dorothy Day Social Action Group works with Faith in New York, an interfaith organization, to address community issues and concerns.
D.3. St. Andrew Vocation Committee
Mandated by Bishop DiMarzio because of its importance, this committee works to increase awareness of vocations to the priesthood and religious life. They help the staff to provide programs that may help to encourage some of our young men and women to dedicate their lives to the service of the Church.
D.4. St. Cecilia Consortium
The St. Cecilia Consortium provides opportunities for the different choirs of Immaculate Conception to produce musical experiences on a larger integrated scale. Registration is open for those who would be interested in helping in production of the planned programs.
D.5. St. Gianna Molla Respect Life Committee
St. Gianna was canonized by Pope John Paul II. She was a wife, mother, and pediatrician while being a great pro-life example for the Church. This committee helps to spread the respect for life at all stages of development from conception to natural death.
D.6. St. Matthew Fundraising Committee
The offertory collection while generous does not cover parish expenses. The purpose of this committee is to plan activities and ways to raise funds to balance the gap between regular income and total expenses.
D.7. St. Paul Media Group
The purpose of this committee is to advertise and communicate using all modern media tools available to inform the parishioners of the programs conducted within in the parish. They organize our weekly bulletin, the large bulletin boards, design ads for newspapers, take pictures of events, administer our web pages, and handle our public relations.
D.8. St. Vincent de Paul Society
This centuries old organization is dedicated to helping the poor. Food is distributed to needy parishioners on the first and third Saturdays of the month from our parish Food Pantry. They also arrange for the St. Vincent de Paul clothing truck to come to our parish twice a year.
D.9. Shelter for the Homeless
Beginning in the fall and ending in the spring, we staff a shelter for homeless men in Monsignor Higgins Hall Monday through Wednesday nights. The men are screened by a City agency and approved for hosting. Using Christian values, two-person teams serve as greeters, overnighters, or cooks (cooking at home and bringing it to the shelter) for a particular evening.
